I have the famous starting issue on my 900 so I bought a flywheel puller and finally got around to taking the stator cover off to see what parts I had to order.
The intermediate gear post was loose (go figure) and the one way clutch was shot because it would spin both ways.
For the gear post, there doesnt seem to be any damage to the case, maybe just a tiny bit of wear on the face so Im going to order a new post, gear, washer and snap ring and torque it into place with red loctite.
However, I have the service manual and it says that if you replace the one way clutch, you have to replace the ring gear with it for some reason. The ring gear looks great with no visible wear as well as the bushing and the part that rides in the one way clutch.
Just wondering if anyone out there that has done this job has just replaced the one way clutch and re-used the ring gear with success?
Thanks.
