Longer read - I'm bored at work, it's a slow friday... :)
I finally tore into mine for the first time last weekend... I purchased a used 2012 800s LE about 3 weeks ago.. The only riding I've done is in my small yard... Anyway, After reading many hours on this site, I decided I better take a look at that throttle cable.. Seems like I press the pedal 1/2 way down before she moves... So I figure I'll take 15 mins and adjust. Man was that a good idea! I could see down by the pedal that I could pull the end of the cable out and it was very loose. I measured and was surprised it was only 3/4 of an inch in the pedal before it would start revving. I went to find the adjustment by the throttle body and wow what a PITA that was! After everything I have read, I had my 2 wrenches rdy to go and thought I'd be done. But there's an intake in the way and I had to remove that. I studied it for about 15 minutes trying to find a way around - it's not possible on my 2012. I pulled the intake off and lost a plastic push-pin (hate those damn things - why don't they just bolt in!?) . Anyway I adjusted the cable and now there's damn near 0 play - maybe 1/16th like the manual says. I can't wait to get out on a ride! Had a group lined up last weekend but they canceled the night before cuz there was too much snow on the ground. Then at 5pm the next day they said the ride was back on, but it was too late for me, I couldn't get a trailer in time :(
So instead I decided to start prepping for the next big ride - whenever that is..
Checked oil - it's a little over-filled but not excessive.
Purchased and replaced stupid missing push-pin plastic crap
bought a cheap pistol grease gun and 2 cans of the green grease (I've never used a grease gun before, but hopefully it's pretty quick and painless)
new set of bungee cords
new gates belt
new Slime 70004 Power Spair 48 Piece Tire Repair Kit: <-- I thought this price was a steal! they want like $100 at autozone..
There's more I need to do yet, I know.. but it's been too damn cold here in PA (-12 again this am) and my garage isn't heated :(
Belt should be in Monday.. I am planning on replacing it and keeping the stock one for a spare...
Thanks for reading! :)
