Long story short, I bought a used front hood storage insert and then my hood wouldn't clamp. Rather than look into it more, I had a different idea.
Takes about 30 minutes and costs about 9 bucks.
Items:
(2) 2 -1/4 Knobs with hex cutout
(2) stainless bolts (1.5" works fine (5/16 in size))
(2) fender clips
(2) Rubber plugs
Step 1. Install the bolts in the 'Knobs' and cut the rubber plugs to fit. Glue if desired.
Step 2. (optional) - I used a thin layer of shoegoo and put washers at the bottom (see pic)
Step 3. Cut a square behind the mount hole on the body and slide the fender clips in using those holes (note: make it wide enough to adjust the fender clip. (A dremel with a drywall tool (looks like a drill bit...sorta) is priceless for this)
Step 4. Pull out the existing black mounting hardware from the hood but leave the grommets in. It's beveled, so the removal will take a little effort. You can use the washer later in step 2 from above.
Step 5. Install the hood and use the new knobs to align the fender clips.
After that, you're done. Looks nice and is a secure hold. I've never liked the factory locks anyhow...
