Here's another map for your Garmin GPS. It's built for the OHV trails to the East of Reno, Nevada.
![]()
The maps published for OHV use so far: The (top) North Valleys, and the (bottom) East Reno map. The bottom one is the new one.
![]()
A detail view of the area served by the new map.
As with the prior map, it includes trails graded by color:
Black: Paved road legal for SxS use
Green: Easy, pickup-accessable roads
Red: Trails that need a RZR
Orange: Bring a winch
It also includes Gates, Locked Gates, and overlays that show the Comstock Mining Permit Area (no trespassing!). Also shown are Private Roads (more no trespassing except in an emergency) and obstructions.
![]()
A view of the map area from the south (Carson City). Note the large purple area in the middle marking the Comstock Mining Permit.
This map has approximately 85% ground truth. We've been using it all this season and it has been very accurate.
![]()
Looking south, Reno/Sparks is seen to the (R) of the photo.
The map is contained as a installation package for Garmin GPS units. The program will install the map into Basecamp, where it is very easy to transfer to your GPS.

Installing the map. Just a couple of clicks.
You can find the install program here:
East Reno OHV map (zipped)
East Reno OHV map (exe)
For those that are suspicious of downloading an .exe (good for you! A little paranoia is healthy), I will have this posted up on GPSFileDepot soon.
Please, please let me know how it works for you, both good and bad. There's probably 300-400 hours of work into this, and I'd like to fix anything if it's wrong.
Cheers!
All the best, James
PS: for you guys that don't have a Garmin, I am working on translating this to a kmz. Post below and I'll get you a copy when it's available.
